Is ‘Progressive’ Now a Bad Word in U.S. Politics?

“The last time I ran into A.O.C., we were beating her endorsed candidate two to one in a primary, and I didn’t see her one minute of these midterms helping our House majority. So, I’m not sure what kind of advice she has, but I’m sure she’ll be generous with it.”
 
This column has long been skeptical of the wokesters of the progressive left, who seem to specialize in societal regression. To this day no one can name a great civilization they’ve created, while almost everyone can think of people they’ve cancelled. Now Democratic candidates seem increasingly wary of being identified as progressives—and for good reason.

Democrats at this hour are beginning to abandon their hopes of holding the U.S. House of Representatives. The Journal’s Eliza Collins and Chad Day report: Republicans remained poised to win control of The House of Representatives with more than a dozen races still uncalled Monday. “Dems’ dreams of holding The House majority probably died tonight,” David Wasserman, The House editor of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, tweeted Sunday…

Republicans currently have won 212 House seats with Democrats at 204, according to the Associated Press tally. A party needs 218 for a majority in the chamber. The GOP could end up only a couple of seats above that number, and the party got a boost Sunday by flipping a seat held by Democrats in Oregon.

As for that important Oregon seat, the A.P.’s Gillian Flaccus reports from Portland: Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer has won the open U.S. House seat in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District…

Chavez-DeRemer’s victory makes her the first Latina congresswoman from Oregon. The district was previously held for seven terms by moderate Democrat Rep. Kurt Schrader and was targeted by the GOP, which saw the 5th as vulnerable after the long-time incumbent’s primary defeat by progressive candidate Jamie McLeod-Skinner. … [To read the full article, click here
