“I tend to agree Trump has opened a negotiation with this volley.  But what he’s done with it is put down a marker that transcends what the tool itself (chip, incentive, disincentive, etc) is about.  His message loud and clear is that the US is taking this situation on as a national interest, and negotiations will come through and with us, or they won’t bear fruit.  That’s not an offer, it’s not a question, and it’s not something he’s submitting to an international body for endorsement. He’s setting it unilaterally as a condition.”  — J.E. Dyer

SHABBAT READING:

Serach, Jacob’s Immortal Granddaughter:  Prof. Rabbi Rachel Adelman, The Torah.com, Jan. 18, 2024Serach bat Asher is the only granddaughter of Jacob’s descendants to be named among fifty-three grandsons who go down to Egypt from the land of Canaan:[1]

Gen 46:17 Asher’s sons: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. Beriah’s sons: Heber and Malchiel.

Genesis, however, implies that additional granddaughters descended to Egypt:

Gen 46:7 He brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
