The airlift of arms into Eastern Europe to help Ukraine’s out-gunned defence against Russian invasion seemed to enter a new phase this week.
Long-range artillery, armoured vehicles and other heavy weaponry were increasingly being assigned to the manifests of military-aid flights swooping into the region.
There have been other signs of hope, too, for Ukraine in recent days.
Its sinking of the Russian navy’s Black-Sea flagship and the continuing, desperate resistance of troops in the decimated port city of Mariupol reinforced the image of a country holding its own against tremendous odds.
But is it all really enough?
