The Canadian Institute for Jewish Research notes with deep sorrow the passing of its remarkable President and leader, Herbert Feifer z”l, and extends its sincere condolences to his beloved Carole, their children and grandchildren, and his wider family.
An outstanding architect, builder, and entrepreneur, Herbie was also a proud and learned Jew, an exemplar of ahavath yisrael, who fought to protect the Jewish people, lived his Zionism, and defended and led our community.
Always ready to do mitzvoth, and to support initiatives designed to ensure Jewish continuity and the well-being of our students, on- and off-campus, Herbie as CIJR’s President was an activist, friend, and colleague. His creative involvement and steady backings were a large part of CIJR’s success as an active supporter of Israel and constant opponent of antisemitism in all its forms.
He will be deeply missed. But we, and his wonderful family, can take comfort from the well-lived life of a man whose menschlichkeit touched all who knew him. Herbert Feifer’s memory, like his life, is and will truly forever be a blessing to us all.
The funeral will take place today in Montreal at Paperman & Sons, 3888 Rue Jean-Talon O, Montréal, QC H3R 2G8, at 2:00 PM EDT.
Prof. Frederick Krantz, Chairman, Academic Council Director, Canadian Institute for Jewish Research.
