June 6, 2024Dear CIJR Friend,As Israel enters the eighth month of the Gaza war and celebrates the miraculous freeing of four of the over 120 remaining hostages, we prepare to commemorate Shavuot, a holiday of liberation and freedom. We are living through the most dangerous moment for the Jewish state and the Jewish people since the 1967 Six-Day War and are far from seeing a clear light at the end of the tunnel.
Above, you can access the latest edition of our superb students’ Dateline: Middle East magazine. Unique in North America, DME has been researched, written, and produced by highly motivated young people directly familiar with the crisis being faced on our campuses and trained under the auspices of CIJR’s Baruch Cohen Israel Advocacy Internships program. Published without a break for over 35 years, our Dateline students are directly involved in the campaign against pro-Palestinian/Hamas antisemitism on- and off campus. Please help them and CIJR’s respected pro-bono academic Fellows continue their effective Zionist advocacy.
As Israel fights to end the Gaza war and destroy Hamas, the wobbly Biden Administration, playing to its radical base as Nov.5 looms, tilts ever more strongly towards Hamas and Iran. As war clouds gather in the north against the Hezbollah terrorists, the Houthis continue to restrict Red Sea-Suez Canal traffic, and domestically, the vicious pro-Hamas surge of antisemitism continues unabated on Canadian and U.S. campuses and in the streets.
Shavuot is a celebration of giving the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mt. Sinai, expressing the unbreakable Jewish commitment to Law, Land, and Liberty, values on which Western civilization rests. The American Founders were conscious of these values when building their Constitutional Republic. They inscribed them on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia: “Proclaim liberty throughout the Land, and to the inhabitants thereof” (Deuteronomy, 28:1-14).
By opposing murderous Islamic terrorism, Israel is defending not only itself but the West. Please help CIJR, an independent non-profit endowment that depends on individual donations, do its part in assuring Jewish victory by making a generous tax-free donation. As R. Hillel said, “If not now, when?”.
With best Shavuot wishes and many thanks,
