Daily Briefing: LAITH MAROUF EXPOSES OTTAWA’S ‘ANTI-RACISM’ PROBLEM

IS IT ONLY ABOUT LAITH MAROUF?

Statement by Professor Irwin Cotler on the Decision to Terminate the Grant to Community Media Advocacy Centre:  Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, Aug. 23, 2022 — I’m pleased that the government has decided to terminate the grant to Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC) and its senior consultant Laith Marouf. His hateful, bigoted and antisemitic comments, are, as I’ve said before, beyond the pale. It is important that Minister Ahmed Hussen has condemned these remarks as unacceptable and ordered an investigation.

Ottawa’s Approach to Anti-Racism Like Asking Big Tobacco to Cure Cancer:  Mike Fegelman, National Post, Aug. 24, 2022 — Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard about how a so-called anti-racism consultant hired by the federal government is in hot water after a string of antisemitic comments posted to social media have come to light.

Trudeau Government Claim Outrage At ‘Anti-Racism’ Consultant They Were Praising as Recently as April:  Tristin Hopper, National Post, Aug. 22, 2022  Top Trudeau government officials are claiming to be blindsided by the revelation that they awarded a $130,000 “anti-racism” contract to a man whose social media accounts are saturated with racial slurs and taunts, but even the barest bit of a Google search could have confirmed that Laith Marouf had a well-established history of hateful remarks.

Funding Hate:  Mark H. Goldberg, July 26, 2021 — How did the CRTC find itself in the position of funding the person generating the kind of speech in this tweet?

Irwin Cotler Controversy Renews Anti-Semitism Debate at University of Toronto:  Jessica Mundle, National Post, Mar. 11, 2022 — One of Canada’s most-admired human rights experts has found himself at the centre of controversy at the University of Toronto, accused of “anti-Palestinian racism” by some faculty at a school often criticized as having an anti-Semitism problem.

How Hatred of Israel Promotes Antisemitism in Canada:  Lorrie Goldstein, Toronto Sun, Aug. 20, 2022Jews have good reason to fear racists when it comes to antisemitism, but anti-racists often provide the political cover for such hateful views. When white supremacists march and chant “the Jews will not replace us” it’s obvious what they mean.
